The Shangri-La hotels was founded by Malaysian businessman Robert Kuok in 1971. Its name "Shangri-La" is derived from the mythical location as described in a 1933 novel "The Lost Horizon". The Shangri-La hotels are well known for their well-designed resort spaces that provides a relaxing environment for families with children.
My fondest memories of Shangri-La has to be family staycations at the Rasa Sentosa Resort, a 400+ bedroom resort that bends around a concave beach at the tip of Sentosa. As kids, we would look forward to Shangri-La's international buffet spreads for breakfast followed by a day of fun-filled activities around the island - miniature golf, musical fountains, merlion visits etc. The smell of freshly cut lawns, wet leaves from the jungle and sea breeze are clearly etched into my mind.
When we curated the Shangri-La Hotel Scent, we were inspired by those nostalgic carefree days. Relaxation and evoking happy feelings were our ultimate objectives in mind. The top note of lavender is familiar to most with its calming effects, reducing anxiety and depressive emotions. The notes of Amber and Lily of The Valley calms the mind and evokes feelings of melancholy. Lastly, the notes of sandalwood helps to remind us to stay firmly grounded.
